Taj Mahal, Agra

The historic city of Agra in the state of Uttar Pradesh in Northern India is a famous tourist spot in India. Sikandar Lodhi founded Agra in the 16th century. The seat of the great Mughal rulers for ages, Agra offers its treasure trove for all the tourists from India and abroad. The city gradually became the epicenter of art, culture and architecture as the Mughals took over the city. Babur, Akbar and Jehangir showed their love for the city by decorating it with palaces and gardens.

Taj Mahal

The most famous of the monuments of Agra, India is the TajMahal. TajMahal is a symbol of the devotion and dedication of love. Agra is now being identified on the world map, with all credits to Taj Mahal, the eternal Mausoleum. Shah Jahan constructed the Taj Mahal on the bank of Yamuna, in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died while childbirth. The construction of the Taj began in 1631 and gradually became the most loving monument of not only Indians but also people worldwide.

Agra Fort

Besides the TajMahal amongst the other famous monuments of Agra, India is the Agra Fort. The vast, red sandstone Agra Fort on the bank of Yamuna river was made by Emperor Akbar. He was undoubtedly the Greatest Mughal emperor of India. The construction of Agra fort commenced in the 1565 and completed in 1571. Built with red sandstone Agra Fort is a mixture of the Islamic and Hindu styles of architecture. Agra Tourism would be incomplete without this monument.

Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb

It is a tomb built with white marble in the typical Islamic style architecture. It was built by the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan in the memory of her father Itmad-ud-Daulah. The Tomb has many beautiful design elements that have earned it a name of "Baby Taj".

Akbar's Tomb

The sandstone and marble tomb of the great Mughal emperor Akbar is worth visiting. Akbar's tomb is a mixture of many architectural styles and Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, Jain and Christian motifs that make it completely different from all other Mughal Buildings.

Agra has many tourist places in and around it, for the visitors arriving in Agra, from other states of India as well as abroad. The nearby short excursions from Agra include Fatehpur Sikri, Sikandra tomb, Mathura and Vrindavan.
